Sunburst Aeonium

If youre looking for a plant that captures the essence of a Prescott sunrise, the Aeonium Sunburst is a true showstopper. This variegated “Copper Pinwheel” is famous for its large, dinner-plate-sized rosettes that feature a stunning mix of creamy yellow, white, and bright green. But the real magic happens at the edgeswhen this plant gets enough light, the leaf margins “blush” with a beautiful coppery-red or pink tint.

What I love about the ‘Sunburst’ is its architectural presence. It grows on thick, woody stalks, making it look like a collection of giant, living flowers held aloft. Its a fantastic choice for a focal point in a succulent arrangement or as a standalone specimen in a decorative ceramic pot. Just a heads-up for my neighbors: unlike many succulents that love the summer heat, Aeoniums are actually winter growers. They might look a little “sleepy” during the peak of our Arizona summer, but they really come to life and show off their best colors when the temperatures cool down.

To keep your ‘Sunburst’ glowing, give it bright, indirect light or soft morning sun. Be sure to protect it from the harsh, direct afternoon sun, which can sunburn those beautiful variegated leaves. Use a well-draining cactus mix and water when the top inch of soil feels drykeeping in mind they like just a sip more water than your average desert cactus!
